Music

It seems that this year Bonnaroo had the jump on booking artists as they boast a very impressive festival lineup. First off, the headliners are Paul McCartney, Mumford and Sons and  last but definitely not least Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Other notable artists are The Lumineers, ZZ Top, Passion Pit, Foals, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Wu-Tang Clan and the list goes on and on. They even have the comedy covered with Daniel Tosh and Weird Al Yankovic among others.

This post is a combination of my love for Nirvana mixed in with how much I already dearly miss the summer and the warm days.

Reggae artist Little Roy, along with his band have just released an album titled “Battle For Seattle”. The album consists of 10 Nirvana covers……that’s right….10 Nirvana songs covered as reggae songs. Despite what my initial thoughts were, I actually really like the way Little Roy has done some of these. Check it out and decide for yourself.

I was using www.stumbleupon.com over my lunch break and found a site I can totally get behind… It’s called www.RageChill.com
The site has a sliding bar to fit your mood between Raging and Chilling and than spits out songs that will fit your mood.

This is a great feature not only to suit your every changing mood but also a great way to check out new artists.

When I say “geolocation,” which legendary musician immediately springs to mind? Bob Dylan, of course! Well, he should, now that he’s teamed up with creative agency CNNCTD+ to promote his new album, Tempest, through the Sound Graffiti iPhone app. The app lets fans unlock songs from the record for free at specific global locations tagged with art from the album. Most of the locales hold some significance in Dylan’s life and career. They include places where he broke into the folk scene & where he first played electric guitar on stage.
This app—the latest in a string of unusual music-marketing gambits, Fort Atlantic’s Nintendo cartridges and Jack White’s helium balloons—has generated extra media coverage for Tempest, and CNNCTD+ creative director Roman Grandinetti believes the approach could catch on. “I think listening and being able to download music this way gives it a feeling,” he says. “It takes that song to a whole other level. I don’t expect the whole world to do this, but real fans will make an effort to be that much closer to the artist.”

The Black Keys seem to make the most of their videos while taking a very minimal approach. This is their latest offering for “Little Black Submarines” off of El Camino. It’s not quite as entertaining as the “Lonely Boy” video but definitely blog post worthy.

Check it out
